Field Excursion for Second Year and Third Year Botany Students

Devkiba Nature Club and Department of Botany of Smt. Devkiba Mohansinhji Chauhan College of Commerce and Science jointly conducted one-day field excursion for second year and third year Botany Students on 28th August, 2019 at Haveli Farm Silvassa.

The major objective was to broaden students’ horizons and knowledge through the introduction to plant diversity and acquaint them with the different plants possessing medicinal values.

A group of students were accompanied by Ms. Seema Bhatnagar, Ms. Nivedita Azad and Dr. Janhavi Arekar of Department.

Haveli farm occupies huge land under the commercial cultivation of varieties of fruits, flowers, Spices and vegetable plants. More than 50 year old Royal Palm is the main attraction of this farm. Students were familiarized with different varieties of Guava, Coconut, Palm, Dates and Mango like Alphonso, Ratna, Keshar, Rus, Rajapuri, Badam, Nilam, Dasheri, Chaunsa, Mlagoba, Totapuri etc. under the guidance of Dr. P. B. Parmar, Prof. and HOD (retired) N. M. College of Agriculture, NAU Navsari, currently working as Floriculturist.

Students were guided to collect different varieties of Mushroom, Pteridophytes, Bryophytes and Angiosperms for study purpose. Different medicinal plant characteristics were discussed and listed.

Entire visit was very beneficial, informative, encouraging and practical based.
